Local With Script Set At Popular Angel Inn Hopes
to Start Filming Soon

A local script writer hopes to make a movie in Niagara-on-the-Lake
that will feature the photographic town, which has been the setting
for many movies that could have been filmed in Anytown, U.S.A.
Kirk Schriefer, with a master's degree in film, hopes to drum up support
to launch a locally-driven project which will highlight the Angel Inn on
Market Street in the Old Town, as well as several areas of the region.
The movie will be called "The Angel Inn" and is about relationships and
romance, he says, in a drama about three life-long friends torn apart
by tragedy and brought together again when they co-inherit a pub in
their home town.
The feature-length low budget film was written to be filmed in NOTL,
and will feature local hotels and restaurants and a local band.
Although NOTL has been used for many movies, this will be the first
that will actually help promote the town, using its real name, he says.
His problem at this point is funding, with a budget of about $450,000,
but he hopes to have financial backing by spring.
Schriefer had some fun recently when PBS did an hour-long show about
NOTL and called on volunteers to pick a segment of town to film. With
his son, Caleb, Schriefer chose to film local hang-outs, which included
the Anchorage and his own business, the popular Pie Plate in Virgil,
which offers his wife's home-baked pies and other desserts, soups and
sandwiches in an informal but interesting setting.
For weeks after the PBS show aired, he was hearing from American
customers who had seen the show, he said, "so I know it can help
to promote the community."
