Film by the Foot: NOTL filmmaker Kirk Schriefer directs
unique fundraiser to fulfill his celluloid dreams

The old notion of stick with what you know certainly worked to the
advantage of Kirk Schriefer.

The enthusiastic filmmaker spent many a day at Niagara-on-the-Lake's
Angel Inn brainstorming for hours about the tale for his next big picture.
The plot was simple; three old friends torn apart by tragedy and
reunited through an emotional journey of forgiveness and romance.

Many hours and pints of beer later, Schriefer looked no further than his
surroundings as the basis of his latest film The Angel Inn. Situated
entirely in Niagara-on-the-Lake, the film centres around Pete Miller,
Janet Sloan and Stan Winston, three friends forced to reunite after
a mutual friend, Terry Owens, mysteriously dies and leaves The Angel
Inn pub in their hands. Old wounds and romances are revisited.

"This story is all about betrayal, hurt and redemption," said Schriefer.
Though the film is fictional, he said elements of the film were inspired
by the death of a real life friend, which brought up thoughts in the
filmmaker's friends on whether they could've prevented his demise.
"There's something about a funeral that brings people back together
to hash things out."

With a Master's degree in film, Schriefer was drawn to the business
because he liked being a story teller. With over a dozen scripts under his
best, he's hoping to see the pages of The Angel Inn script come to life
on the silver screen. All aspects of Niagara-on-the-Lake's beautiful
scenery, along with its historial buildings and landscapes, will be
prominently featured. Scenes of the movie will also be filmed in the
real life Angel Inn.

Filming is expected to begin in August over a 21-day period, but without
major funding, however, the film may never get off the ground. To raise
funds for his venture, the Virgil filmmaker is launching the "Film by the
Foot" campaign to help pay for the production. Schriefer said movie
lovers will have a chance to literally "own" a foot of film by pledging
$45 towards the production.
